On Tuesday, August 2, 2011 citizens, community groups, local businesses, local officials, and Law Enforcement Agencies from all over the country will join forces to mark the “28th Annual National Night Out”. This year, over 34 million people across the country are expected to participate.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Evans Police Department.
Your neighborhood is invited to participate with many other neighborhoods across the country in celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday evening, August 2, 2011.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime, drug, and violence prevention awareness. It strengthens neighborhood spirit and community partnerships with police. National Night Out sends a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
National Night Out is a powerful demonstration of neighborhood unity with local police and fire departments. Participating neighborhoods nationwide are asked to turn on outside lights, lock their doors, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Evans neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of events ranging from small potlucks and barbecues to large block parties. Some additional event ideas include, but are not limited to, ice cream socials, games, contests, food or clothing drives, discussing neighborhood issues, setting neighborhood goals, beautifying a common area, discussing a Neighborhood Watch Program. It’s up to you – – be creative, have fun and celebrate with your neighbors! In the past, the block parties have included a variety of foods, bands, street dances, and activities for children and teenagers.
Evans Police Officers will be located at each block party to interact with the community. They will have their patrol vehicles available for children to view as well. The Evans Fire Department will circulate throughout the block parties allowing children to view the inside of the Fire truck and try out some of the equipment.
Registration is free, so register your neighborhood for this year’s event today. You do not have to be a current Neighborhood Watch neighborhood to participate. National Night Out is for everyone! Register now and begin planning your event as soon as possible.
