The city of Evans has declared Sept. 10, the same day as EvansFest, to be a designated “play day.”
In issuing the proclamation, Mayor Lyle Achziger said, “Play is a valuable part of a child’s healthy development and is a crucial factor in the overall well-being of children.” Achziger said the city encouraged all citizens to participate and advocate on “play day” in an effort to continue to support and maintain play spaces and playgrounds for the well-being of current and future generations.
In 2010 the city was designated a “Playful City USA” by a national non-profit organization that empowers communities to build playgrounds.
EvansFest will be held at the Riverside Park in Evans and is open to the general public regardless of residency. EvansFest will begin at 7:30 a.m. and goes until 2:30 p.m.
During this week’s city council meeting, Mayor Lyle Achziger said he was excited about the event and families would be able to enjoy a fun-filled day. A pancake breakfast will be held at 8:00 a.m. and vender booths open up an hour later.
EvansFest will feature entertainment and games for children. Individuals will be able to purchase lunch for $2 a meal at the various food booths. This year’s food court will feature food and drinks by local restaurants; Palomino’s, Old Chicago, Schwartz’s Krautburgers and 8th Ave. Wing shack.
