WCDPHE’s goal is to increase awareness about men’s health issues and to educate men and their families about the importance of screening and early detection in preventing and treating disease.
Date: Tuesday, October 25st
Time: 7:30 am until noon
Where: Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment
1555 North 17th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631
Public Health Services Clinic, 1st floor
No appointment is needed
Reduced cost flu and diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccinations will also be available during this October 25th screening event. An eight hour fast is desirable prior to the screening unless you are diabetic in which fasting is not advised.
Presently, men die nearly five years younger than women. This was not always the case. In the 1920’s the lifespan for men and women was virtually the same. Today, men have higher death rates than women for nine out of the 10 leading causes of death – heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, unintentional injuries, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, influenza/pneumonia, kidney disease, and septicemia. Even so, men are still less likely than women to visit a doctor, get regular check-ups, have medical insurance, or lead a healthy lifestyle.
Understanding health risks is one thing. Taking action to reduce your risks is another. Start with healthy lifestyle choices – eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups and taking precautions in your daily activities. The impact may be greater than you’ll ever know.
