Presently, men die nearly five years younger than women. This was not always the case. In the 1920’s the lifespan for men and women was virtually the same. Today, men have higher death rates than women for nine out of the 10 leading causes of death – heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, unintentional injuries, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, influenza/pneumonia, kidney disease, and septicemia. Even so, men are still less likely than women to visit a doctor, get regular check-ups, have medical insurance, or lead a healthy lifestyle.

Understanding health risks is one thing.  Taking action to reduce your risks is another.  Start with healthy lifestyle choices – eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups and taking precautions in your daily activities.  The impact may be greater than you’ll ever know.
