Touting its success for the year, Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced it had killed over 300,000 babies last year and received almost $500 million in taxpayer money.
Planned Parenthood was founded by eugenicist, Margaret Sanger. In honor of its founder, the organization issues its highest honor, the Margaret Sanger award to “recognize leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement.”
In Planned Parenthood’s annual report which covers the period July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010, Cecile Richards, president of PPFA praised affiliates for their parts in helping pass Obamacare.
The report also showed the organization performed 329,445 abortions in 2010, which was a decrease from 2009 when 331,796 abortions were performed. The organization also provided several hundred abortion referrals to other agencies.
The report claims abortion services make up 3 percent of its “medical services,” however, PPFA states that it served 3 million people. Factoring in the 329,445 abortions, the report shows that 11 percent of Planned Parenthood customers underwent an abortion.
The agency received 46 percent of its funding from government sources which translates to $487.4 million from the taxpayers. Planned Parenthood ended the year with over $1 billion in assets.
Majorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, called PPFA an “abortion giant.”
“With over a billion in net assets and a business model centered on abortion and government subsidies, it is time for Planned Parenthood to end its reliance on taxpayer dollars,” Dannenfelser said. “Despite an unprecedented effort by statewide and federal leaders to defund them, a wave of former employees willing to testify against them, and uniform agreement amongst Republican presidential candidates that they should be defunded, Planned Parenthood continues full-steam ahead. They are unwilling to answer to the pro-life American majority that wants out of this business.”
Several states have voted to defund Planned Parenthood including Texas, North Carolina, Indiana, Kansas, Wisconsin and New Hampshire. In retaliation for cutting off funding, the Obama administration has threatened to withhold Medicaid funds to states unless they agree to fund Planned Parenthood.
In several states, judges have blocked defunding laws and ordered the state to fund the organization.
Planned Parenthood has been criticized as being willing to skirt laws requiring the organization to report possible child rapes and providing tips on avoiding parental notification laws. In one instance a Planned Parenthood employee was captured on tape saying the organization would be willing to take a donation to be used exclusively for aborting black babies.
