Weld’s debt free status factored into Teletech decision for Greeley facility

by Jack Minor –

The Chief Executive Officer of a new customer experience center moving to Greeley said they looked at many factors including Weld County’s sound financial footing when choosing where to locate.

Ken Tuchman, CEO of TeleTech, along with Governor John Hickenlooper and Greeley Mayor Tom Norton appeared at the new facility which is located at the former K-Mart shopping center. The company’s corporate headquarters is based out of Englewood.

Tuchman said the Greeley site is intended to be a prototype for all of their facilities going forward. The facility intends to start by hiring 500 employees, but that number could increase to 1,000 if all goes well.

Hickenlooper said while he was excited about TeleTech coming to Greeley he expressed concern that all parts of the state were not recovering from the recession equally.

On Feb. 6, TeleTech is expected to start approximately 45 days of training with the initial batch of employees.

Tuchman was asked if  Weld County’s designation as the only debt free county in Colorado factored into the company’s decision to locate in Greeley.  He said the county’s financial status was one of several factors they considered. “We definitely look at the social and economic status of the areas we are interested in. We don’t want to go into an area that is bankrupt and be left holding the bag.”

While some in the media have referred to the Greeley site as a call center, Tuchman says that is not really an accurate term.

“We’re trying to get everyone away from the term ‘call center.’ We used to do that, but now so much of what we do has nothing to do with voice.” Tuchman said. “When you go to a company and want to chat or send a Tweet out and want a response, that’s us. We become the interface, not only to companies but also to the Federal Government.” Tuchman said one thing this facility would be doing is building management databases and providing them to clients to place on  websites for people to solve their own problems.

The company also provided analytical support to the United States Government during the 2010 census.

TeleTech will be having a job fair Tuesday and Wednesday at the Aims Corporate Education Center at 5590 11th St from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
