As area churches make preparation for what Christians call the beginning of holy week, one church is doing something unusual during these difficult economic times. They are discussing to build a new building.
Faith Bible Baptist Church has been on the corner of 35th Ave. and 4th St. since 1971 when the current building was built.
During their annual business meeting which fell on Palm Sunday this year, the congregation heard an update from the pastor on ongoing plans to build a new auditorium. Pastor Matt Walter said the current auditorium will seat around 160 people excluding the choir loft.
The new building which will be added onto the existing location will house an auditorium capable of seating over 350 people.
The church sits on almost five acres. The land and building are paid for. The church began phase one a few years ago when they expanded the parking lot, added a new sign and placed a new steeple on the auditorium.
The new building is expected to cost around one million dollars.
This Sunday taking advantage of the size of their property, the church will be holding a gigantic Easter egg hunt.
Pastor Walters said this has become annual tradition and they will have upwards of 2000 eggs. The eggs are stuffed with candy and coins. The church divides the area up into sections for different age groups. They even have
a section for nursery age children to participate.
During the 11:00 am service the choir will be performing an Easter cantata “Something’s Happening.”
