Immigration data being mined

Obama ordered U.S. to clear the way for illegal immigration

The former Governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman, was an early drop out from the 2012 Presidential campaign. He was running as a Republican. But Huntsman has a record of supporting the Obama immigration agenda. Columnist and Lawyer Phyllis Schlafly reports in her column today that Jon Huntsman wrote for the Wall Street Journal that President Obama’s immigration order – nicknamed ‘obamnasty’ – doesn’t go far enough in granting millions of work permits to illegals.

So Schafly leads a data mining expedition and uncovers some discouraging facts.

From the Center for Immigration Studies:

  • economic progress made by all immigrants — legal, illegal and their U.S.-born children under age 18 — lags far behind native-born Americans and nearly half remain below the poverty line.

From the U.S. Census – 2010/2011:

  • 43 percent of immigrants who have been in the United States at least 20 years are receiving welfare benefits. That figure is nearly twice as high as welfare given to native-born Americans.
  • Immigrant children account for 1 in 5 public school students, and 1 in 4 public school students speaks a language other than English at home.

On that point, Schfaly suggests bilingual education keeps children speaking their native language year after year, instead of using the successful early 20th-century immersion system of teaching the kids only in English, who then went home and taught English to their parents.

Ironically the immersion system which has been entirely abandoned for English, is a tool becoming more popular than ever for Spanish and Arabic languages – in America.

  • Only 2 percent of native Americans live in overcrowded households, compared to 13 percent of immigrant households.
Legal and illegal immigration over the last 10 years has caused 80 percent of our total population growth, but there is no data to suggest this influx has increased our economic wealth.

Again from the Center for Immigration Studies:

  • more than half of net new jobs in the last five years have gone to recent immigrants. The share of immigrant men holding a job is now higher than the percentage of native-born men who are employed.

This evidence indicates how clearly the Obama administration has betrayed its own constituency of African-Americans, as well as citizens of all races who desperately need entry-level jobs.
