A Preview of the Ballot and some candidates

The 2012 general election ballots will be mailed in just a few weeks. Here is a preview of some of what most Americans (and others who vote) will be seeing on those ballots.

Under “Presidential Electors” the list of candidates includes 16 names from various sectors of the political spectrum. Some voters may even recognize a name or two in addition to the Republican and Democratic nominees. For example, the septic society of television entertainment is proudly represented by the melodious voice of Roseanne Barr who is joined on the ballot by Cindy Sheehan.

The mainstream media won’t embarrass the entertainment society by reporting that Sheehan has stated she has a ‘duty not to pay taxes’ because she didn’t like the war in Iraq. Her son, who volunteered, served successfully, then re-enlisted to be a soldier, was killed in Iraq. Casey Sheehan received the Bronze Star. He was  killed in action attempting to rescue some combat soldiers from his unit whose convoy had come under attack. Casey volunteered to join the rescue attempt even though he was assigned in the non-combat position of mechanic. His memory would be disgraced by his mother’s anti-war protests and refusal to pay her “fair share” since 2004.

The I.R.S. has filed suit against Sheehan for refusing to even supply her financial information. According to an independent news blog from the San Francisco Bay area, “When the IRS takes Cindy Sheehan to court to try to force her to support the war machine that killed her son, other war tax resisters from Northern California (the Bay area) will be standing with her.”

The “war tax resistance” movement information and blog comments indicate this sector of California intelligentsia can’t actually figure out how much they should pay for all the social programs they do support. So they just don’t pay any “share” at all – fair or unfair.

Many Obama supporters might recognize the name Gloria La Riva. She has been a staple on ballots for the Socialist and like parties since the eighties. She even garnished over 72,000 votes in her run for governor of, where else, California. On the issue of slavery La Riva calls for taxpayers to “pay reparations, with interest, for slavery.” Her position statements really don’t show that she has worked out the details of who might receive how much. Her published statement reads, “We believe that the Black community be compensated fully, with interest, for the historical racism and wrongs forced upon them by capitalism. The wealth stolen from Black people by corporations, institutions and the government must be repaid in full.”

But Gloria is smart enough to know she won’t have any impact if Obama is defeated. Her web site offers “official” Obama merchandise via a link to an Obama on-line store. Apparently the presidential candidates of the Socialism and Liberation Party endorse Obama.

There are even more extreme candidates on the ballot this year. Perhaps there is one who would endorse the Romney/Ryan ticket.

Monday October 8, at 7:00pm, you can meet several candidates and hear responses from several others at a Meet the Candidates evening at Campion Academy. The school is located at 300 SW 42nd Street, Loveland. That is about a mile west of US287 just south of Loveland.
