Fast and Furiously – Obama attacks Free Speech

by Craig Masters

Americans alone have Freedom of Speech

Did you see this one coming? Muslim leaders from all over the world setting aside their violence against each other for a week of unity – against Americans’ Freedom of Speech. John Irish writes it this way on the Reuters web site: “Muslim leaders were in unison at the United Nations this week arguing that the West (the U.S.) was hiding behind its defense of freedom of speech … … widening the East-West cultural divide.”
Inside the hallowed U.N. chambers such great guardians of freedom as the Turkish Foreign Minister called for the end of free speech. Meanwhile the apologizer-in-chief continued pandering to his base by ignoring a public request for a meaningful face-to-face meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu while agreeing with the “East” that something needs to be done about ‘blasphemous’ speech such as the YouTube sensation Innocence of Muslims.
The axiom ‘actions speak louder than words” is never more true than when those in charge say one thing and do another. While Obama was speaking the usual platitudes about free speech, he was acting to increase censorship with the now familiar Executive Order form of government the 47% seem to accept as the replacement for the Constitution.
On Tuesday, Sept 4, Chris Dodd, former VT Senator (D) and now high-powered D.C. lobbyist, ask the Connecticut delegates to the Democratic convention, “What would happen to the internet?” without government regulations. Dodd’s opinion, “You can’t just have a legal, free environment where there aren’t any restrictions whatsoever.”
September 29, thehill.com reports, “Facebook is warning the Federal Trade Commission about its proposed update to children’s online privacy rules.” Rules contained in the most recent in the series of Executive Orders Obama has issued since June, 2012, quietly setting the stage for censorship hidden behind the veil of national security and sold as ‘protecting children.’
Most Americans were not concerned in June of this year when Obama signed an executive order giving himself control of all communications systems in America. The press didn’t care or consider this order as a threat to free speech. Every President since Hoover has actually had the authority to use public communication systems in the event of a national emergency. T0rnado warnings, thunderstorm warnings, or even enemy attack are what this ‘power’ has always been about. But no administration has ever before been involved in so many anti-Constitutional activities, or been sued by so many states over the abuse of executive power. Never has the meaning of what is a national security emergency been considered as a threat to freedom of speech – until now.
The only world leader still blaming the killing U.S. Ambassador Stevens on the YouTube film Innocence of Muslims is Obama himself. While the Muslim leaders were calling it blasphemous, and demanding the U.N. do something to end this kind of speech in the world, they did not connect the killing of Ambassador Stevens to the film. All credible sources from the President of Lybia to the U.S. Intelligence Service have agreed this was a pre-planned attack which was not related to the film.
Obama alone continues to set the stage for censorship under the disguise of national security. He continues to blame freedom of speech for the anti-American riots currently spreading across the Muslim world.
His administration has tried before to gain censorship power over the internet. The Lieberman-Collins Cybersecurity Act failed, even in Harry Reid’s out of control Senate! There was a reason even this bastion of corruption thought such censorship laws would never be tolerated by Americans; let alone the ultra liberal Supreme Court. Yet Obama has proved he doesn’t care about what that outdated Constitution says about how a bill becomes a law. His Executive Order circulating now in Washington will allow the director of the Department of Homeland Security to shut down the internet and cell phone systems if he or someone else, perhaps the President, feels information or speech being circulated is a threat to national security.
When vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan appeared at a town hall meeting in Fort Collins recently, he was asked what President-elect Romney would do about all of the executive orders Obama has put upon the country. Ryan did not hesitate to explain that if Obama can write them President Romney can, and will, throw them away.
