Generation Opportunity reviews the State of the Union

Stealing opportunity from young people is not an Investment in anyone's furture!

By Craig Masters

To paraphrase Generation Opportunity’s David Pasch, the message from Obama to America’s young people was as simple as: “Young people are Screwed.”

The most recent Millennial Jobs Report reported by Generation Opportunity shows unemployment at nearly 14% for 18 to 29 year olds. But that figure does not reflect the nearly 2 million young adults no longer being counted as “unemployed” because those people, another 3-1/2%, simply have given up looking for work.

Seldom reported in the mainstream media is the percentage of those people in the under 29 year old age group who are college graduates but significantly underemployed outside their field of study. The discouraging news of the struggles of this group of young Americans to dig out from under burdensome federally confiscated student loans has become a dirty little secret; never to be reported if the source reporters ever expects to be allowed high-level access.

The straight talking president of Generation Opportunity, Evan Feinberg, put it this way, “When the President talks about ‘investing in the future,’ he really means stealing prosperity from young Americans to pay for a bloated, out-of-control, and unsustainable federal government.” Evan stated that the President’s speech, “indicates that young people will be screwed even more in the next four years than they were in Obama’s first term.” And that is saying a lot!
