Democrats have again ruled in their best interest instead of the public’s. Thursday, February 7, the Senate Education Committee killed a bill introduced by Ft. Collins based Senator Vickie Marble (R) which would have reinstated Freedom of Choice to teachers to either join or not join the powerful teachers’ union.
It has been well documented that dues money taken from teachers by force of contract is regularly used to support political candidates – almost exclusively democrat candidates – whom the teachers would choose otherwise not to support. This forced contribution to political candidates has resulted in an unholy alliance between the democratic party and the teachers’ union. The bill proposed by Senator Marble would simply have returned Freedom to teachers to allow them to opt out of paying dues to a union which does not serve their interests.
The bill was of course defeated along straight party lines – all democrats voting to force teachers to support political candidates and issues ( such as this one) the union leaders wish to support, and all republicans on the committee voting for Freedom of Choice. Scott Renfroe (R, Greeley) was excused, however, his 1 additional vote for freedom would have left the final tally at 5 against and 4 for instead of the 5-3 count in the record.
