Hosea 8:9–For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself…
How irrelevant Congress has become under the Obama Administration! If they can’t decide as a group of 535, he decides for the country by himself. And we dare to call ourselves a Republic when we have declined into petty dictatorship!
Over the past four months, the irrelevancy of Congress has been brought home almost daily. Bureaucrat after bureaucrat trots dutifully into Congressional committee hearings and lies through their teeth; almost daring the ineffectual bumblers to do something about it.
Subpoenas for records are issued and ignored, deadlines are laid down and ignored. Congressional response? The chairman or ‘Honorable Idiot For the Day’ goes before the press and whines about lack of cooperation.
It is more than lack of cooperation. It is a concerted, coordinated effort to dismiss Congress as a vestigial limb by the other two Constitutional branches but in particular the Executive Branch.
Congress should be particularly outraged by a communique from the National Security Agency that was released by Edward Snowden to the Guardian last week. The communique was not part of the normal, secured transmissions but was from a private account and, surprise! was captured by the NSA’s own metadata collection scheme. It was exactly like of those “undocumented” documents the IRS is having so much trouble locating despite Congressional subpoenas in the Lois Lerner testimony.
But this was one specific and comes from Oct. 12, 2012. In the transmission it states, “even if Congress fails to pass, or delays passage of, a replacement bill for 2008 FAA legislation which enables all FAA collection.”
The 2008 FAA law (FAA stands for FISA Amendments Act and FISA stands for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) was scheduled to expire and NSA wanted to not only keep its collection program in place. It was so determined to continue that it was going to do so even if Congress didn’t approve extension of the program.
To make matters worse, the document also revealed the NSA was going to pay for this from a slush fund within government called “Special Source Operations”.
The document revealed this fund had been used to pay the tech companies for access to their records during FY2011.
So when those indignant tech officials from Google and Yahoo!, the cell phone providers and cable networks all trotted up to the public microphone and said they had not opened their records for government access, they were telling a slice of the truth. They sold access to the government. But it also puts another nail in the Congressional coffin.
Syria is the newest fiasco. We are continually told by White House spokesmen about the “how Syria can compromise the interests of the United States.” What those ‘interests’ are has never been fully explained.
A major blow was dealt when the United Kingdom failed to join the foray into Syria in a vote Thursday afternoon. But the real blow came when the Dictator in Chief couldn’t go to the United Nations and present a logical argument that would be listened to. This was impossible for the U.S. because the UN is really, really angry because it was recently disclosed, in the Snowden papers, the U.S. government was guilty of a major violation of the ‘diplomatic immunity’ granted by the rest of the world.
It seems the NSA had wired the “safe rooms” in the UN where diplomats thought they could discuss major issues openly without harming their other alliances.
That darn fugitive traitor Snowden just ruined another illegal activity for the government.
The only real consequence Snowden will have it is showing the rest of the world what a banana republic the U.S. really is. Our “jackass” president who is now willing to go into Syria alone if need be or eat more crow if he fails to live up to another public promise is shredding what status this country has left.
And the sad part is we will all pay for it. Once that status is gone, the perception of our government will change drastically. This will damage the dollar’s status as the world’s benchmark currency which means our huge debt load–exacerbated and exaggerated by this Administration–will cost us vastly more in debt service than we can handle with a part-time economy.
Minor inflation on our debt service costs will lead to major inflation across the landscape of holders of the dollar. Overnight we will become a beggared populace of a broken government.
I hope this scheme to thumb our nose at the rest of the world over Syria is forgotten because I don’t have the yuan, rials, pounds or francs to cover the increase in the cost of living coming our way. But I’m afraid the jackass is determined to go…Hosea said so.
