Weld United Way 211 service connects flood recovery services, victims and volunteers

United Way of Weld County’s 2-1-1 Information & Referral Service provides access to services to people all across Weld County. In times of disaster, such as the Windsor Tornado in 2008 and the current flooding that has devastated the entire state, 2-1-1 has provided access to updated road closures, shelters and recovery information.

United Way of Weld County is able to provide a connection for victims of the flood, for people who want to volunteer as well as for in-kind donations and needs. The 2-1-1 information and referral program maintains a database of available services with details such as contact information, location, criteria to qualify for services and hours of operation.

2-1-1 Colorado has developed a recovery assistance guide for victims of disasters. This guide has an abundance of information to guide individuals and families in the right direction for long-term recovery. United Way of Weld County’s 2-1-1 has developed this guide to include information on the floods and specific resources in Weld County and is updated nearly every day. A copy of this guide can be downloaded from UnitedWay-Weld.org/2013flood or picked up at the United Way offices or other community resource locations.

The Community Foundation Serving Greeley and Weld County and the United Way of Weld County have teamed together to help in intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for flood victims. The partnership multiplies reach so that donations can be made through either organization. There will be no fees by either organization, so 100% of the funds will help victims of the floods. Once established, these funds will be available to households county-wide for intermediate and long-term needs to help restore properties and livelihoods.

Monetary contributions are much more useful in times of disaster; however, sometimes a simple blanket or bottle of water will make a difference to victims of the flood. Many giving people in our community are gathering items needed. But where are they and what items do they have? What items do they need? United Way of Weld County 2-1-1 is also maintaining a database of in-kind donation needs and organizations accepting and distributing these items. Individuals in need of items can call 2-1-1 for assistance.
