Legal Consumer Fireworks OK to Use in Greeley

With Greeley’s adoption of the 2009 International Fire Code that went into effect January 1, 2010, Greeley residents are allowed to purchase and use consumer fireworks within the City of Greeley. Consumer fireworks are those that can be legally purchased within the State of Colorado per State statute and include: cylindrical and cone fountains, ground spinners, dipped sticks and sparklers, snakes and glow worms, trick noisemakers and certain other novelties. Fireworks that leave the ground or explode such as bottle rockets and firecrackers remain prohibited and users are subject to penalties.

Union Colony Fire Rescue asks that consumer fireworks users follow these safety tips:

  • Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks
  • Read and follow all warnings and instructions
  • Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
  • Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
  • Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.
  • Keep a bucket of water in case of a malfunction or fire.

And remember, as an operator of consumer fireworks you are 100% liable for your safety and the safety of others. Any harm to yourself, others or property that may result from your storage, use, or handling of consumer fireworks is your responsibility.
