Some students’ free or reduced-price meal accounts are approaching the Sept. 28 deadline to reapply to continue this benefit during the current school year.
Students who received free or reduced-price meals last school year are allowed to carry over that status through the first 30 days of this school year. However, during those 30 days, parents must submit a new, complete and correct application for free or reduced-price meals. Students whose accounts have not been updated by Sept. 28 will change to “full price” status on Sept. 29.
The regulations and timelines are part of the federal school meals program rules, established by the USDA.
If parents have not yet filled out an application for the 2010-11 school year, they should do so as soon as possible. Applications are available at any school office or cafeteria, or at the Nutrition Services office located at 2508 Fourth Ave., in Greeley.
The district’s Nutrition Services personnel are making every effort to contact parents to let them know of the issue. Parents who have concerns about the possibility of meal status changing for their children should call the Nutrition Services office at 970-348-6600.
Applications are available to parents throughout the school year. If a family’s income changes during the school year because of job loss or cut in pay, it may be beneficial to submit or resubmit an application.
