United States Senator Michael Bennet was at the Kress Cinema and Lounge in Greeley Tuesday November 9th, during his “Thank You Tour”. Many Greeley residents attended to show their support.
Bennet has gone from superintendent of Denver schools to United States Senator. Considered to be a success as superintendent in 2008, Bennett was the first in five years that the district did not have to cut its budget. He later went on to work with John Hickenlooper in his administration.
The race between Bennett and Buck was one of the closest in history with Bennet nudging Buck by 18,000 votes. Bennet thanked voters stating in a race this close “Every vote counts.”
Michael Bennet’s speech explained that he stands for independence, moving the country forward, investing in clean energy, balancing the budget, and giving children a 21st century education (regardless of what zip code they live in). Bennet’s’ vision is to make sure the children of today are not left with less “than we had.”
Bennet promised the crowd, “I will not let you down,” and vowed to do what is right for Colorado on a day-to-day basis. Bennet admits the race has been a learning experience and with this victory Colorado has sent a very loud message.
33 of the house seats belong to republicans while 32 belong to democrats. There has not been a 33/32 split since the early 1900’s.
