ATF to accept public comments prior to outlawing shotguns

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens.
The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined “Sporting Purpose” test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be “military” by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban.
Ironically, many shotguns with “military” features are currently being used in shooting competitions held by the USPSA, IDPA and IPSC. The rules could also result in obscure regulations where an individual would be unsure if he is violating them or not.
Dudley Brown, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, said if the ATF succeeds with the banning of tactical shotguns it “will be the most dangerous interpretation of the 1968 Gun Control Act ever envisioned and will outlaw thousands of perfectly legitimate home defense shotguns.”
The ATF is currently allowing public comments on the study until the end of the month. Those wishing to express concerns about the study can send an email to shotgunstudy@atf.gov

We need not create more laws but to enforce the ones we have. After being in lawenforcement for 40 year I have seen all the plea barganing I can stomack. Pump shot guns are part of our way of life as a semi autos. If you take them away your taking away home defence,sporting and hunting from America. That’s like making use drive cars that only get 30 miles to the gallon, when they found away to get 70 miles to the gallon, OH THAT’S RIGHT THEY ARE ALREADY DOING THAT ALSO. There is a car made in the US and shipped to europe that gets 70 mpg. Let’s enforce the gun laws to the limits and set a president that if you violate a gun law you won’t get a slap on the wrist.

Well, the Germans tried to get Shotguns banned from the battlefield in WW I because they weere so damn effective in stopping the advance of the enemy, THE GERMANS!
So it would make sense to ban Shotguns for Civilians as it is the ultimate equalizer against Criminals, the favorite class of citizens of Liberal Ultra Left thinkers. After all, they are just misunderstood people who need to prey on the honest people because of being victimized by the right living society of hard working, good living people of this country.

What is the basis for outlawing shotguns? If you start with shotguns, then every other type of firearm will follow. Guns are not the problem, people are the problem. Enforce the current laws instead of creating new ones or banning guns. This is why myself and my entire family are NRA life members!

Aren’t the ATF the ones with the fine idea to give assault weapons to Mexico, in hopes that we could catch them later and arrest them. The only problem is that never happened, but the people they gave them to, killed a lot of people with these guns, including our own people.
Maybe they need to pay more attention to their own policies, and less attention to law abiding citizens.

My idea of “sporting” may differ from some bureaucrat. Examole “saturday night special” ended up being any handgun being sold that was disliked by some official. Some of which are just trying to disarm the law abiding, as the criminals, who will stay armed, are already denied use and possession of firearms due to existing firearms laws. Criminals do not obey laws. If they did, they would never become criminals, after being caught and convicted of a crime.

Try and take em. I would rather live in prison for protecting myself, than live in fear for surrendering my RIGHT to do so.
On the day of the recent east coast storms when power had only been out maybe 3 hours, I saw very frantic behavior at a 7-11 store as people could not purchase food and water without cash.
I could only imagine that it would not take too many days of no power before people would start robbing each other for food and water. I purchased a mossberg 500 12 ga shotgun in order to be able to protect my wife and myself and protect our food and water in the home if the need arises.
*In times of disasters the police ar not able to act as security officers for the the citizens and the people like myself must be able to secure our own home.
Shotguns are probably the best protection in the home to deter intruders.
