Lester O’Neil Ebersole

July 24, 1922 ~ April 11, 2011

Lester O’Neil Ebersole, son of Roy A. and Bessie (Brenneman) Ebersole, was born in Tuleta, Texas on July 24, 1922.  He grew up in Elkhart, Indiana, and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1940.  After working a year, he attended Goshen College for one year.  Because of World
War II, he expected to be drafted before he could finish another year of college.  Lester served in Civilian Public Alternative Service (CPS) with various assignments in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska.

Lester married Fern Katherine Yoder on August 8, 1943.  After his release from the service, they lived in the Elkhart area for several years before moving to Phoenix, Arizona for the health of their oldest child.  They later lived in Colorado until retirement, and then moved to Sun City, Arizona.  After Lester’s wife passed away in the spring of 2006, Lester lived in Sun City for one more year and then for two years at Glencroft Retirement Center in Glendale, Arizona.  He moved to Colorado in 2009 to be closer to his family.

Over the years, Lester was employed in sales, accounting, and construction.  He also painted houses after retiring.  Lester was always interested in music, and was active in church as a song leader.  He also sang in various organizations, including the Phoenix Orpheus Male Chorus which toured and performed in Europe.

Mr. Ebersole lived in Colorado at Bonell Good Samaritan Society from July of 2009, until he went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  While at Bonell, singing continued to be an important part of his life.  He would often be heard singing for the residents of Rosewood Assisted Living.

Lester was preceded in death by Fern, wife and love of his life for 62 years.  Survivors include two sons, Greg (Cali, Colombia) and Ken (Lafayette, Colorado), one daughter, Karen Thomason (Evans, Colorado), one sister, Ethel Lind (Hesston, Kansas), six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
